Walter served as a 2nd Lt., U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Erie County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on January 22, 1942 in Buffalo, New York. He was noted as being Single, without dependents.

Walter died in the "Line Of Duty" of a non-battle related incident during the war.

Service # O-804633

Second Lieutenant Machemer served with the 29th Combat Crew Training Squadron at Gowen Field, Boise, Idaho.

He was killed piloting U.S. Army Air Corps B-24D Liberator #42-40707, in a crash, five miles southwest of the airfield.
