U.S. Congressman. He graduated from the University of California, in 1942, was also a reserve office cadet at UCLA and during World War II served as a Lieutenant with the 3rd Marine Division, United States Marine Corps, seeing actions in the Pacific Theatre, (1942-46). After the war, he studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1949 and engaged in the practice of law in Van Nuys, California. Remaining in U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, he rose to rank of Colonel and served in the Korean War. He was a member of Los Angeles City Council, (1957-60) and a member of the President’s National Advisory Commission on Civil Disorders, (1967-68). In 1961, he was elected as a Democrat to the Eighty-seventh Congress and to the next nine succeeding Congresses, serving until 1981. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he opened the law firm of Corman Law Offices, in Washington, D.C. and died of a stroke at age 80. The Federal Building in Van Nuys, California, was named in his honor in 2001.
