An older brother of Peter, Jacob, had come to America several years before that and settled near Liverpool, Ohio. Peter Wise and his family settled in Loraine County, Ohio. The Wise family were very frugal, industrious and very honest; very fair in their dealings. They would rather give more than necessary than take more than was theirs. When Peter was young, his father died, and being the eldest boy, the responsibility of taking care of his mother and brothers and sisters fell to him, hence he became a rather practical, matter-of-fact man."
