William J. Amell
Service for William J. Amell, 89, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ball & Dodd Funeral Home-North. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.
Mr. Amell, who died Sunday, was born in North Dakota and came to the Spokane area with his mother as a youngster. He was educated by his mother and lived in the Inland Northwest logging camps, where she was a cook.
In the late 1930s, he worked in construction on the Grand Coulee Dam and then was a traveling salesmen, first for a coffee distributor and then selling roofing materials.
Mr. Amell had a cattle and dairy farm for 40 years at Nine Mile Falls. He moved into Spokane recently.
He was a life member of Spokane Eagles Aerie 2 and a member of the Lilac Blind Foundation and Hillyard Senior Citizens.
His wife of 30 years, Elsie Amell, died in 1971.
Survivors include three granddaughters, Jackie B. Silvey and Diane V. Platz, both of Spokane, and Patricia J. Eskew of Virden, Ill.; six great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
