He died while supporting combat operations during Operation Enduring Freedom in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was shot by a sniper as he stepped out of a military vehicle while on patrol in Helmand province in southern Afghanistan. He was a 2007 graduate of North Tonawanda High School and attended Niagara County Community College for a year before enlisting in the Marines in May 2008.
He was survived by his mother and step-father; his father and step-mother; and several siblings.
Funeral Services were held at the Tonawanda Chapel, Amigone Funeral Home in June 2010. Interment on July 13, 2011.
