He was the son of the late Nels Peter Johnson and Minnie Dorothy (Hansen) Johnson.
Alfred graduated from Lemont High School then retired as a Master Sergeant in the US Marine Corps where he served in World War II and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He also served in the Korean War and Vietnam War. He was the USMC Marine of the Year in 1970.
After his time in the military, Alfred worked for and retired from Union Oil Company.
He was a master gardener and a long time pilot, up until he was 88 years old.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Vealie Ellen Angel Johnson, parents, Nels Peter Johnson and Minnie Dorothy (Hansen) Johnson, seven brothers and sisters.
