Gerald David Elder, 81, of Long Beach, Mississippi, formerly of Columbia, passed away on October 26, 2018
Gerald was born on December 1, 1936 in Columbia, Missouri to Marion and Hattie (Marsh) Elder.
He attended Hickman High School.
He was a baseball player with the St. Louis Cardinals from 1954-56. He began working as a fire fighter with the City of Columbia Fire Department on September 10, 1958. He was promoted to Lieutenant in December of 1971 and ended his firefighting career after 27 years when he retired on August 1,1985.
From 1985 to 2005, Gerald was an over the road truck driver, accumulating over 2 million miles on his books.
Gerald was survived by wife of 63 years, Geraldine Elder; brother, Robert; daughters, Scharolette and Regina; 5 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Monday, November 5, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial following at 11:00 a.m.
Interment will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Arrangements are pending under the directions of Parker-Millard Funeral Services and Crematory 12 East Ash Street Columbia, MO 65203 (573) 449-4153.
