Maurice Gale Boyer, died February 1, 2006 at Community Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado following a brief illness.

Maurice was born January 16, 1917 in a cabin located on a 20 acre farm in Tipton County, Indiana, the second son of Mr. & Mrs. Lincoln Boyer.

Following the death of his mother when he was eight, the family consisted of his maternal grandfather, father and brother. Following high school, he married Rosemary Miller on March 17, 1939; together they raised 4 children and sent them through college.

During World War II, Maurice rose to the rank of First Lieutenant in the Infantry, while in the Army he trained Philippino regiments for the reoccupation of the Philippines and commanded a POW camp for Japanese prisoners of his own farm. Through hard work and innovations he built up his operation to the present farm in Hamilton County, Indiana.

In 1975 he retired from active farming and moved to Grand Junction, Colorado where they purchased the Prospector Motel on Hwy 50. After operating the motel for 12 years, they retired again and for 4 years traveled the country in their RV.

Following Rosemary's death in 1993, Maurice continued to travel between their home in Orchard Mesa and the RV in Arizona, before moving to the Grand Villa retirement home four years ago. Maurice was also a 33rd degree Mason Member of the Shriners and Scottish Rite Temple.

Maurice is survived by his daughters, Anne Boyer of Grand Junction, Colorado, Marrose Boyer of Sarasota, Florida, and sons, Jim Boyer of Portland, Oregon and Rob Boyer of Tuscon, Arizona. He is also survived by a grandson, Cole Boyer of Tuscon, Arizona.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, February 4, 2006 at River of Life Church, Grand Junction, Colorado.
