Businessman, Publisher. Ernest is the second son of a family of four children in the Haute-Marne whose eldest son, Camille, was a famous astronomer. Ernest owes its fame to the publisher he founded in conjunction with the library home Marpon Charles in 1876, the Flammarion-Marpon. The success of this business is due to the commercial success of Popular Astronomy, book of his brother he published in 1878 and which became a bestseller in the late nineteenth century. The Flammarion moving towards literature by publishing a variety of classics, modern ( Stendhal, Balzac, Flaubert, Zola, Maupassant, Jules Renard ) or more popular as Hector Malot, then the catalog diversified and covers virtually all areas of publishing with a special liking for publications popularizing science and humanities.
