Son of English Immigrant John Berryman and Jane Tucker.

Husband of Elizabeth Newton.

Father of Rose Ann Berryman Taliaferro.
According to several sources including Barbara Breedlove who has done a great deal of research on the BERRYMAN family, "BENJAMIN BERRYMAN was born to JOHN BERRYMAN and his second wife JANE BALDRIGE about the time of his father's [JOHN BERRYMAN]death in 1680.

Contradiction: BENJAMIN BERRYMAN was born in 1669. It is probable that ___ TUCKER was John Berryman's first wife and Benjamin's mother, not Jane Baldridge. BENJAMIN BERRYMAN would have been 8 or 10 yrs old when JOHN Berryman married JANE c.1677-79.
Marriage records indicate that 1) [Baldridge] married Alex Baynham bef. Jun 1662, 2) JANE Baynham married Thomas Butler by Nov 1662, 3) JANE Butler married JOHN BERRYMAN 1677-1679, 4) JANE Berryman married John Harvey c.1680, and 5) JANE Harvey married Francis Thornton btw. 1701-1705 . Other sources show her with 8 husbands.

BENJAMIN BERRYMAN held many offices in the Colony of Virginia, including Justice of the Peace in Westmoreland County, a post to which QUEEN ANNE appointed him in 1703, and Sheriff of Westmoreland County, to which Governor ALEX SPOTTSWOOD appointed him in 1719. He was an attorney in both of the Virginia counties of Stafford and King George. He was appointed both a Captain and a Major, but most references cite him as 'Capt. BENJAMIN BERRYMAN'. AUGUSTINE WASHINGTON, the father of GEORGE WASHINGTON, was a Justice of the Peace in Westmoreland County at the same time BENJAMIN BERRYMAN was.

BENJAMIN BERRYMAN was married twice:

1. His first wife was SARAH BLAGDON, the daughter of JOHN and SARAH BLAGDON. The mother, SARAH, was murdered before 25 September 1658, and WILLIAM BOOTH who had married a daughter of JOHN and SARAH BLAGDON, was appointed guardian of the young SARAH. She died before 1700. Gyl Dalrymple believes that there were two children born to this marriage: (1), BENJAMIN BERRYMAN Jr. (2). ELIZABETH BERRYMAN who later married WILLIAM NEWTON, a grandson of JOHN NEWTON Sr. who was BENJAMIN BERRYMAN's father - in - law.

2. After SARAH's.death, BENJAMIN BERRYMAN married the former ELIZABETH NEWTON, daughter of JOHN NEWTON [mentioned above], and his fourth wife ROSE ALLERTON.

BENJAMIN BERRYMAN and his second wife ELIZABETH had many children - one source says 22.

BENJAMIN BERRYMAN died after writing his Will in August 4, 1729 and before it was submitted for probate on August 27, 1729 in Stafford County, Virginia.
