George W. Solle, 80, of South Grand Ave W., died yesterday at his home following a long illness. Mr. Solle owned the first gasoline station in Springfield at Third St. and Capitol Ave. He operated the George Solle Oil Co., until 1928, and since that time has been president of the American Finance Co. of Bloomington. He was born Feb. 4, 1876, a son of William and Maria Solle. He had been a member of the Springfield Optimist club since 1921.
Surviving are his wife, Alice; one daughter, Miss Jean Solle, Bronxville, N. Y., and one sister, Mrs. William Reichle, Springfield.
Funeral services will be held Monday at Thomas C. Smith's Sons funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery. - IL State Journal, Springfield, IL, 10-14-1956
