Earnest Reuben Allen, age 89 of Forest City, North Carolina died Tuesday September 2, 2008 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center in Spartanburg. He was born December 21, 1918 in York County, SC and was a son of the late A.D. and Treva Jones Allen. Reuben retired as the Custodian of First Baptist Church of Forest City where he was also a member, Deacon and taught Sunday School for more than 30 years. He was also a combat veteran of World War II having served in the United States Army in North Africa, Sicily, Tunisia and Italy; served as a telephone Switchboard Operator for General George Patton. He received the EAMET Campaign Medal with seven Bronze Star and the American Defense Service Medal. Reuben served in the Army from 1941 until 1945. He is survived by a nephew and several nieces as well as great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1 O'clock pm Friday September 5, 2008 in the First Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Barry K. Keys and Reverend J. Anthony Spencer officiating. Interment will follow in the Lattimore Baptist Church Cemetery in Cleveland County. Visitation will be in the Church Parlor from 12 noon until 1pm prior to the service.
