Frederico R. Fred Apodaca, 74, died in his home in Hurley Tuesday. He was born in San Jose on April 20, 1914, to Pedro and Ofelia Apodaca. He was a retired Chino Mines employee and was a faithful communicant of the Infant Jesus Catholic Church. He was a great father and grandfather who always thought of his kids first. He was best loved because of his humorous ways and crazy pranks. He will be remembered for his loving and caring ways and for always being there for all of his family. Calling hours will be today from 2-5 p.m. in Baca's Hillcrest Funeral Chapels. Rosary service will be held this evening in the Infant Jesus Catholic Church at 7, where Mass of the Christian burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Friday. Interment will follow in the Hurley Cemetery. The Rev. Julio Espinosa will officiate. Survivors are his wife, Anita, of Hurley; three daughters, Amelia Bencomo and her husband, Danny, of Phoenix, Ariz., Elsie Vasquez and her husband, David, also of Phoenix, and Connie Flores and her husband, Fernando, of Arenas Valley; three sisters, Elvira Sedillo of Las Cruces, Bridgette Armijo of Los Angeles, Calif., and Irene Jaramillo of El Paso, Texas; one brother, Abe Apodaca of Albuquerque; eight grandchildren, Kathy, Eva, Joe, Luis, David, Alex, Freddie, and Elaine; and seven great-grandchildren, David, Christopher, Angela, Maurice, Freddie Ryan, Timothy Bryan and Davey. Casket bearers will be his grandsons, Joe Bencomo, Freddie Flores, David and Alex Vasquez, David Caldwell and David Jaramillo Jr. Entrusted to the care of Baca's Hillcrest Funeral Chapels.
