Catherine bore five known children between 1840 and 1858. The 12-year gap between son John, born in 1846, and her youngest child, daughter Claudine, born in 1858, suggests there were other pregnancies and possibly other children who died without record.
Presumably, Catherine maintained her husband, children and household while she observed the rites of the Roman Catholic Church into which she herself was baptized in infancy, and followed custom with her children.
In her late sixties, Catherine suffered pleurisy and died when she was 68 her husband of 42 years, five children, and grandchildren to mourn her loss.
