Rita C. (Cormier) Perry, 91, of North Kingstown, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at Kent Regency, Warwick.

Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Dillon Cormier and Bridget (Connell) Cormier. She was the wife of the late Sen. Charles A. Perry, Jr.

Rita was very involved with family, friends, and community. Until the age of 85, she and her daughter, Pat, ran a slipcover and drapery business which earned a "Best in Rhode Island" Award. As a talented seamstress and milliner, she designed and created many wedding gowns, hats, and matching outfits. Rita was proud to announce that she had done work for Doris Duke and even met the butler.

She also volunteered with the Girl Scouts, the Jamestown Drum and Bugle Corps, the PTA, the NK Recreation Department and the NK Republican Town Committee.

Rita was the beloved mother of 4 daughters, Carol A. (William) Mudge, Patricia E. (Alfred) Miranda, Christine E. (Carlton) Arruda, all of North Kingstown, and Linda E. ( Richard) Kokla of Coventry. Much loved grandmother of Suzanne Zile, Melissa Rembijas, Pamela Rogers, Kevin Perry, David Miranda, and Ryan Arruda. Great-grandmother of thirteen, and great, great-grandmother of three. Three grandsons, Richard Rembijas, Robert Rembijas, and Robert Mudge predeceased her. Rita, the youngest of ten children, was also predeceased by her siblings, Agnes Tata, Madeline Cunningham, Carmelita Szlatenyi, Gladys Laycock, and Ernest, Earl, Joseph, Raymond, and Edward Cormier.

Rita will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Her generous spirit and compassion were her life's passion. Her spunk and energy were contagious.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at 11:00 am in St. Bernard Church, 415 Tower Hill Road, Wickford. Burial will follow in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, North Kingstown. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm in THE CRANSTON-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME of WICKFORD, 140 West Main Street, Wickford Village, North Kingstown.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory to Hospice VNA of Care New England, 51 Health Lane, Warwick, RI 02886 will be appreciated.
