The funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, June 2, in First Christian Reformed Church for Elizabeth Rus, 88, of Des Moines, formerly of Pella. She died May 29 in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Herman Kelderman of Des Moines, where she had resided the past four and a half years. The Rev. John R. Sittema officiated with burial in Oakwood Cemetery. Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements.

She was born Oct. 8, 1897, near Pella, to Peter James and Reinera Van Veen Van Steenwyk, She attended West Amsterdam rural country grade school. On Dec. 1, 1920, she married Leonard "Lane" Rus. After their marriage they lived all their married lifetime in Pella where Leonard was an auto mechanic.

She was a member of First Christian Reformed Church in Pella where she had been an active member of the Senior Helping Hand Society. She was a former member of the Christian High School Auxiliary, the Amvets and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. John (Margaret) Vander Poorte of Detroit, Mich., Mrs. Marvin (Kathryn) Kallemyn of Des Moines, Mrs. Herman (Bernice) Kelderman of Des Moines and Mrs. Harry (Elizabeth) Boender of New Sharon; four sons, Germent J. of Pella, Peter H. of Phoenix, Ariz., Jacob of Pella and Charles L. of Pella; 23 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Tunis (Clara) Schakel of Pella and a brother, Henry of Pella.

She was preceded in death by her husband, who died Jan. 16, 1981; her parents; two half-brothers; five brothers and sisters who died in infancy; and a great-grandson.
