James F. "Jim" Glover, 86, of Eola, passed away peacefully after a lingering illness on Monday, April 7, 2003 at Provena Mercy Center Hospital in Aurora. He was born October 13, 1916 in Newark, MO, the son of Frank and Verna (Mauck) Glover.
Mr. Glover was honored to serve his country in the United States Army during World War II. He served in the 7th Armored Division, 40th Tank Battalion from January 1942 until December 1945, at which time he was honorably discharged.
On June 22, 1946 he was united in marriage to Frances (Stanek).
He was an active member of St. Therese Church since 1946. He was past president of the parish council and the Holy Name Society of St. Therese Church.
He was a member of the 4th degree Knights of Columbus Marquette Assembly and the Knights of Columbus Council #736. He also served as state trustee for the Catholic Order of Foresters and of Court 1544 of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church.
Jim had a great love for baseball and was an avid White Sox fan. For over 25 years he coached and managed Little League in Naperville, IL. In the late 50's he played for and later managed a number of baseball teams in the Fox Valley League, including the Reber Butterbeans and JB Reed's Truckers.
Mr. Glover was employed as a machine operator by Commonwealth Edison, in the Power House for 33 years until his retirement in 1979.
Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Frances (Stanek) Glover of Eola, IL; two daughters, Mary F. (Donald) Nelson of Naperville, IL and Barbara A. (James) Curtin of Denver, CO; one son, Frank J. Glover of Denver, CO; two grandsons, Andrew M. Nelson and David Tucker; five step-grandchildren, Thomas (Susan) Nelson, Anne Marie Nelson, Laura (James) Vertucci, Christopher (Sheryl) Nelson and Kristin (Grant) Wood; three step-great grandchildren, Danielle and Luke Wood and Ana Sophia Nelson; three sisters, Nola (Steve) Vlasz of Aurora, IL, Nettie (William) McClennon of Aurora, IL and Lotus (Marlin) Spidle of Appleton, WI; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by five brothers, Joseph W., George W., Darryl E., Abraham W. and Louis R. Glover.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 11, 2003 at 9:30 a.m. from THE DALEIDEN LAKE STREET MORTUARY to St. Therese Church at 10 a.m. Fr. Joseph Muller, M.S.C. will officiate with interment at Marywood Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 10, 2003 from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a Rosary Service at 7 p.m. at THE DALEIDEN LAKE STREET MORTUARY, 220 N. Lake Street, Aurora, IL 60506. (630) 898-8634.
