Ira T. Bryan, 85, of Picture Rocks, died Thursday, July 14, 2011, at the Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit.

Born Nov. 26, 1925, in Picture Rocks, he was a son of the late Benjamin F. and Edith E. Farrar Bryan. He and his wife, the former Evelyn I. McCarty, celebrated 62 years of marriage on April 1, 2011.

Ira attended Picture Rocks High School and was a World War II veteran, who served honorably in the U.S. Navy. He was employed with Young Industries, Muncy and retired in 1988 from Construction Specialties, Muncy, after having worked there for nearly 20 years.

He was a member of the Picture Rocks Baptist Church and a former member of the Picture Rocks Lions Club, the American Legion Post 35, Hughesville, the Roaring Run Rod & Gun Club and the Picture Rocks Fire Company.

Ira was an avid reader and Civil War and history enthusiast, who enjoyed spending time visiting battle fields and museums. He enjoyed high school sports, especially football and wrestling. Ira also enjoyed playing golf, trout fishing and volunteering for the Susquehanna Health System and the SonLight House.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Jan (Christopher) Davis of Bloomsburg and Judith (Thomas Gordner) Stiger of Muncy; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a daughter-in-law, Cynthia Bryan of Montgomery; and a brother-in-law, Joseph Waltman of Muncy.

In addition to his parents, Ira was preceded in death by a son, Steven Bryan; a brother, Paul Bryan; and three sisters, Joyce Hoffman, Harriet Greenholtz and Rebecca Waltman.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at the Picture Rocks Baptist Church, 50 Elm St., Picture Rocks, with the Rev. Ronald M. Turner and the Rev. Charles B. Mercer co-officiating. Burial will follow in Picture Rocks Cemetery with graveside military honors accorded by combined veterans organizations. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Flowers are welcome; however, memorial contributions may also be made to the Picture Rocks Baptist Church, P.O. Box 408, Picture Rocks, PA 17762.
