U.S. Congressman. He attended Mountain City Business College, graduated from the law department of the University of Alabama, in 1894, was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Anniston, Alabama. He was Anniston City Attorney, (1898-1902), a member of the Alabama State Senate, (1900-10) and chairman of the congressional committee for the fourth Alabama district, (1906-10). In 1911, he was elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-second Congress and to the next four succeeding Congresses. He also been reelected to the Sixty-seventh Congress, but died suddenly at age 47.
