Actor. He gained fame as a Uruguay-born theater actor before becoming a pioneer of Argentine cinema. Born Cecilio Pablo Fernando Podestá, one of nine children, his parents were circus performers. He joined his family's business as an acrobat. When the circus troupe, "Circo criollo," finally dissolved around 1900, he turned to a career in acting. He is known for the silent films "Mariano Moreno y la revolución de Mayo" 1915 and "Tierra baja in 1912. The Premio Pablo Podestá is annually awarded by the Argentina Actors Association to award excellence in acting.
