Dorothea was born in Sawpit,Colorado. After the death of her Father, her family moved to Mesa, AZ when Dorothea was about 9 years old. Following graduation from Mesa High School, Dorothea attended Arizona State Teachers College in Tempe, AZ. Dorothea married Johnnie Shea on April 9, 1927 in Los Angeles, CA and they lived in Huntington Park, CA. Dorothea and Johnnie Shea later divorced. Dorothea continued her college studies and met and dated John Hinson Thomas, III, from Bisbee, AZ. Both Dorothea and Hinson were attending Arizona State Teachers College and Hinson later graduated from Arizona State Teachers College. Dorothea and John Hinson Thomas, III, married and had a son, John Hinson Thomas, IV. Dorothea and Hinson had a second son named Frank Eugene Thomas, born October 26, 1938, in Mesa, AZ. Baby Frank lived only a short while on the day of his birth and is interred at Mesa Cemetery in the same grave as his Grandmother, Beulah Stroup. Dorothea and Hinson later divorced. Dorothea worked for the Army in Utah and then moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana with John Howard, a Sgt. in the US Army, stationed at Baer Field in Fort Wayne. In March, 1945, an unknown assailant attacked and assaulted Dorothea and after several days spent in the hospital as a result of the attack, Dorothea passed away. Dorothea left behind a young son who was living with her sister in Phoenix, AZ. Dorothea's passing at a young age was unexpected and a great loss to her son and her family. Dorothea may have been married to Jack Howard after her divorce from John Hinson Thomas. This has not been verified. Will update if determined to be true.
