Louis Carlton Shaw was born on March 8, 1924, and went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, July 12, 2011.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Charlotte Sill Shaw, and three brothers.
Louis grew up on a dairy farm near Ithaca, NY. He lived most of his life in central New York, in the Syracuse area, where he was employed as a truck driver for Clark Concrete Trucking Company for 34 years.
Louis and his wife of 61 years, Doris, in the summer of 1988 moved to the Asheville area, where they resided the last 23 years.
Louis was a loving and caring husband and father who simply enjoyed people and helping them out. He enjoyed gardening and sharing his bounty with others.
Most of all, Louis loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with all of his heart. He loved to pray for the missionaries and their needs that he had come to know and love over these many years. His greatest joy was greeting people as they came into the services at Syracuse Alliance Church, his home church before moving to Asheville, and at Cornerstone Church, his home church while residing in Asheville, where he was the head usher.
Surviving are his wife, Doris L. Shaw; son, Keith J. Shaw, of Asheville; brothers, Duane Shaw of Homer, NY, Charles Shaw of Spring Hill, FL, and Bernard Shaw of Rochester, NY; sisters, Adelaide Durbin of Moravia, NY, and Sharon Romaine of Groton, NY; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
His funeral service will be held at 2:30 PM, Saturday, July 16, 2011, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, with Rev. Jeff Hober officiating. Burial will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to one of the following: Hispanic Ministry of Cornerstone Church, 12 South French Broad, Asheville, NC 28801; CarePartners Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813; Western North Carolina Baptist Home, 213 Richmond Hill Dr., Asheville, NC 28806.
