Elizabeth L. Mowre

Dearly loved wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Betty Mowre passed away unexpectedly at the age of 77, on December 10th, 2005. Born on August 22, 1928 to Knute and LouElla Loiland, she was raised in Tacoma and attended Lincoln High School.

She met the love of her life, Stanley Mowre, and they were married in 1946 in the First Baptist Church, downtown Tacoma, where she had been baptized and later taught Sunday school. While raising three children, Betty was very active in PTA and together with Stanley they started The Tacoma Escort Service. One of the first in the nation, this business employed off-duty police officers using police motorcycles that Stanley purchased to provide police escorts for a variety of functions including funerals. Betty maintained a busy office at home so she could be there for her children. Years later, she spent many long hours working in their hardware store and motorcycle business they began in Port Angeles. Subsequently they returned to Tacoma and she worked for and retired from Puget Sound National Bank.

Over the years of her life, she was active in the Elks Club, Eastern Star, Ladies Shrine, and The Association for Retired Police Officers, Canterwood and Madrona Ladies Golf Leagues, and her garden club. She continued her life-long friendships with her Lincoln high school girls' club friends through monthly luncheons. Quiet times would find Betty reading mystery books and enjoying her pets. Her unequaled passion was her family.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Robert and Knute Loiland. Her surviving family includes her loving husband of 59 years, Stanley, children Lynette (Dennis) Long, Rene Daulley, Stanley Mowre Jr. (Debbie), five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous friends.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00PM Wednesday, December14, 2005 at New Tacoma Cemetery. Remembrances can be made in the form of a donation to the Shriners Children's Hospital.
