He was a former resident of Petrolia and Harold where he owned and operated Atchley Drug Store. He moved to Archer City in 1950 and opened Atchley Drug Store. He began working in the oil industry during the late 1950s. In 1960, he sold the drug store and became an independent oil producer until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of the Archer City Church of Christ, where he served on the church board. He served as president of the Archer City High School Wildcat Booster Club in 1967.
