Ambria Agnes Hallbauer, the daughter of Herman and Bertha (Krohnke) Petersen, was born on January 15, 1910, in Crawford County, Iowa. She received her early education there and graduated from Schleswig High School.

On June 4, 1935, Ambria married Arthur A. Hallbauer in Cherokee, Iowa. Following their marriage, they operated Coney Island Restaurant until Arthur went into the military during WWII. When Arthur returned from the service, they moved to a farm north of Sutherland until retiring and moving into Sutherland in 1981.

Ambria was a member and past matron of the Victory Chapter, O.E.S. in Sutherland. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Methodist Women's Society. She also sold Avon products for many years.

Ambria passed away on March 31, 2005, at the Sutherland Care Center at the age of 95.

Funeral services were Tuesday, April 5, 2005, at the United Methodist Church in Sutherland, Iowa. Rev. Dennis Hopes officiated. Interment was at the Waterman Cemetery in Sutherland. Warner Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Left to cherish her memory are three daughters, Cynthia Hallbauer of Sheldon, IA, Helen Jackson, and her husband, Bill of Alford, FL, and Nancy Axdahl of Portland, OR; five grandchildren, Wanda, and her husband Rev. Allen Biggs of Marianna, FL, Tonja Daniels of Alford, FL, Wesley Charles Miles Jr., of Oakwood, GA, William Miles of Altha, FL, and James Axdahl of Portland, OR; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Arthur Sr., in 1990 and a son, Arthur Jr., in 1994
