Crystal A. Nichols, 72, of Arma, Kansas, died at 1:55 p.m. Sunday, September 27,2009, at her home. Mrs. Nichols was born April 29,1937, at Brooks, Iowa, the daughter of Frank Marion and Adah Catherine Freshour Winstone. Crystal was a homemaker and also worked as assistant supervisor of housekeeping at the Arma Hursing home. She was raised in Iowa and Nebraska and lived in Arizona, Arkansas and Leavenworth, Kansas, prior to moving to Arma in 2002. Crystal married Warren E. Nichols on July 15, 1958, at Leavenworth, Kansas. Mr. Nichols preceded her in death, May 1, 2003. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church at Girard. Survivors include two sons, David W. Nichols and wife, Neicy, of Arma and Richard O. Nichols of Pittsburg, two brothers, Ivan Winstone of Portland, Oregon and Melvin Winstone of Webb City, Missouri, fourteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Delpha Jordan. Funeral services were at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 1, 2009, at the Bedene Funeral Home at Arma with Rev. Mark Wenzelburger officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Bedene Chapel. Mrs. Nichols will be cremated following the services and burial of her cremains will be at a later date at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery at Brazilton. The family suggests memorials to help defray medical expenses. Donations may be sent to or left at the Bedene Funeral Home, 517 E. Washington, Box 621, Arma, Kansas, 66712.
