John Lester Pickett was the son of John Columbus Pickett and Margaret "Maggie" Holt Pickett.

He married Lilly Mills and they had three sons: John, Hollis, and Jay. The story is that Lester was a playboy and Lilly abandoned him before Jay was born. They divorced circa 1904.

Lester went out west and in the 1910 census, he is listed as a "prisoner" in a mine. He is in Cochise County, AZ, when he fills out a draft card.

He returns to Georgia sometime after 1924, as his mother's obituary states he is residing in San Francisco, CA, at the time, and dies in 1929 in Clarke County, but according to his death record, he lives in Atlanta. "Athens" is scribbled out on his death record as place of death. He dies of "pulmonary tuberculosis"

He has no obituary or it has been lost.
