Professional Race Car Driver. Born in Spain, Velez was an International Motor Sports Association Champion. He was the FIA World Sports Car C2 Champion in 1987, and 1989, and the IMSA World Sports Champion in 1995, and 1997. From 1995 to 1997 he won 12 victories in the 12 hours of Sebring. In 1997 he took 10th place during the Indianaoplis 500. Between 1990 and 1998, Velez raced in 58 IMSA events earning 11 wins in the Lights Class, and 6 in WSC. In 2000 he won the Spanish GTB Championship Class. Velez died on March 31, 2003, 3 days before his 44th birthday of cancer.
