5th Baron Brownlow of Belton. He was the son of Henry Francis Cockayne-Cust and Sara Jane Cookson. He married Maud Buckle, daughter of Captain S. Buckle, on 5 October 1895. He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Lincolnshire, and the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.). He fought in the First World War. He gained the rank of Major in the service of the Reserve of Officers. He succeeded to the title of 5th Baron Brownlow of Belton. He held the office of Mayor of Grantham between 1924 and 1925. He gained the rank of Honorary Colonel in the service of the 4th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment.
