CALHOUN, Sylvia L., Wyoming, Mich., formerly of Somerset, died Thursday, December 12, 1991, at Crestview Manor Nursing Home in Wyoming Mich., following a one-year illness. She was 91.
Born in Wayne County December 10, 1900, she was a daughter of the late James William and Elizabeth Hughes New. She was a homemaker and member of New Hope Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Arthur L. Calhoun, Somerset and William E. Calhoun, New Castle, Ind.; a daughter Violet Claycomb, Wyoming, Mich.; two brothers, Osburn New, Lockland, Ohio, and Schuyler New, Somerset; a sister, Edna Crockett, Somerset; five grandchildren, Trudy Randall, Paul Claycomb, Greg Calhoun, Janet Hutson and Kibby Calhoun; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a husband, John W. Calhoun, whom she married May 21, 1921, in Somerset; four brothers, Floyd, Arthur, Denny and Johnny New; and two sisters, Charity tarter and Flonnie Gadberry.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 16, at the chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home with the Revs. Thomas Adams and Jackson Brewer officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeside Memorial Gardens. Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. Commonwealth Journal
