Friends throughout the County were shocked and grieved to learn of the death of Mr. Rollin Merrit McCommons on March 29 at the Boswell Hospital, following a brief illness.
Mr. McCommons was born June 15, 1908 in Greensboro. His parents were Mrs. Ila Merritt McCommons and Robert L. McCommons.
He was a graduate of the Greensboro High school and the University of Georgia. He was a member of the Official Board of the Methodist Church, a Mason and member of the Lions Club.
Mr. McCommons was a descendant of two of Greene County's old and influential families, doing much for the growth and betterment of the count
For thiry-eight [sic] years Mr. McCommons was a merchant in Greensboro. He was a most thoughtful person, ever ready to help a friend. His genial and lovable nature made him a very popular man.
In 1935 he was married to Miss Lina Belle Richardson.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Thursday, March 31st at the Greensboro Methodist Church Rev. J. W. Eberhardt officiating. Interment in the City Cemetery.
The following will serve as pallbearers: Charles Easley, Jim Boswell, Allen Roper, Ellis D. Foster, Lee O'Neal, Fred Hunter.
Survivors are his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Andrew Boswell and Mrs. Robert Durham of Greensboro, son, Rollin M. McCommons Jr. of New York and Greensboro.
Three Sisters, Mrs. W. W. Wingfield, Mrs. W. W. Guy of Athens, Mrs. J. T. McGibony, Washington D. C., Four grandsons.
