Bergandine Verna Cushman Bergandine, 101, of Sunbury, died Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at home surrounded by her family. She was born November 14, 1914 in Woodstock, Ohio to Arthur and Mary Cushman. Verna had a love of art, poetry, skilled in needlework, and painting. She was always there to help others in time of need. She was a longtime member of the Sunbury United Methodist Church. She is survived by daughters, Anne Stockert of Rockwood, MI, Susan Churchill of Westerville, OH, Barbara (Duncan) Whitney of Delaware; sons, John of Harmony, NC, Charles (Karen) of Ostrander, James (Deb) of Delaware, Robert of Provincetown, MA, and Jeffrey of Columbus; 17 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; and two great- great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, ten siblings- five sisters and five brothers, husband Frank D. Bergandine (1983), and grandsons Scott Bergandine (1988) and Christopher O'Bryan (1991). Memorial contributions may be made in honor of her childhood church toward restorations at Woodstock Universalist Church, c/o Woodstock Lions Club, P.O. Box 202, Woodstock, OH 43084. Visitation will be Friday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Sunbury United Methodist Church. The funeral service will follow visitation at the church on Friday at 1 p.m. Burial will follow the service at Sunbury Memorial Park.
