The Correctionville News, 28 April 1988, page 1: Florence R. Baxter, 97, passed away April 13, 1988, in Denison, Iowa. Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 18, at the Cushing United Methodist Church with Rev. Kermit Gladfelter officiating. Burial was in the Cushing Cemetery under direction of Barker Funeral Service. Florence Robena Milne Baxter was born April 8, 1891, in Cushing to Robert and Mary Greiner Milne. She graduated from Cushing High School and studied music at Drake University in Des Moines. She taught country school and was a telephone operator in Cushing. She taught piano lessons for many years and was a cook at the Cushing school for a time. She married Charley George Baxter on September 29, 1920, at Sioux City. She moved from her parental home and remained in her present home in Cushing until the past few months when she was a resident at Eventide Lutheran Home for the aged in Denison. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Cushing. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Howard (Jean) Mallanee of Denison, three grandchildren, and a niece, Barbara Britten of Milwaukee. She was preceded by her husband, and three sisters, infant Doris, Myrtle and Claire Britten.
