On June 12, 2011, David George Grimes passed away in Diamond Bar, CA. David was born on July 25, 1949 in Muskogee, OK to Lacy George Grimes and Nancy (McSpadden) Grimes. He went through the Muskogee Public School system, attending Longfellow, West Jr. High, and graduating from Muskogee High School in 1967. As a child and teenager, he was a member of First Baptist Church. He attended Northeastern State University for a short while, then enlisted in the U.S. Navy, based in Lemoore, CA. He served off the coast of Vietnam during that war. After being honorably discharged in 1972, he decided to settle in California, living around the Los Angeles area. He was trained in electronics in the Navy and worked at Carrier for awhile, then had other jobs in the area. David was very organized and meticulous and got excellent comments on evaluations from his job supervisors. His last home was in Diamond Bar, CA where he was surrounded by many friends and acquaintances. They loved David and considered him to be a gentle, kind, caring person who always helped out when there was a need and always had a friendly smile for everyone. His friends had a memorial service for him and launched red OU balloons and black Raiders balloons in his memory because he was such a big fan of those teams. David was preceded in death by his parents and two sets of grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. McSpadden of Tahlequah and Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Allen of Muskogee. He is survived by his sisters Mary Jane (John) Leafer and Sally Shipman of Muskogee, a nephew, Chris (Erica) Leafer and their children Cole and Emily, and two nieces, Taylor Shipman (Billy Banks) of Ft. Gibson and Carrie Leafer and her children Camryn and Ryan Sherwood of Muskogee. He also leaves behind several cousins including Marcheta Lashley, Bill McSpadden, Cathy Chalmers, Susan Hamilton, Vance McSpadden, Greer McSpadden, Jane Dearman, Dan Strong, Jim McSpadden, Anita Boone, Burke McSpadden, Mike McSpadden, Judy Houston, and Nancy Layton. One cousin, Mark Hancock, preceded him in death. There will be a graveside service for David on July 15 at 11:00 a.m. at Ft. Gibson National Cemetery with Rev. Bill Crow officiating.
