Todd was born in Beaumont, Texas on September 7, 1924 to Charles Ernst and Sydney Follin Todd Scharnberg. He earned a degree in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University in 1946. Todd served in the US Army at the end of World War II, and then worked for Sun Oil Company for his entire career.

His parents and his sisters, Hildegarde Long and Carla Trum preceded him in death.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Hazel Harmon Scharnberg, their children Todd and Donna, and their spouses Betty Stuart and George Burger, four grandchildren, Will and Jack Scharnberg and Brittany and Chris Burger, several nieces and nephews, extended family and beloved friends.

Todd was known to his family and friends for his gentleness, generosity, quiet spirituality, and his absolute devotion to Hazel.

Burial will be at Elizabeth Memorial Baptist Church in Branch, La at 1 PM on November 6, 2010, followed by a memorial service in the church at 1:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Boys and Girls Country of Houston.
