Martin Rouzer was born circa 1735, in Amwell Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey, the son of Gideon Rouzer/Rauscher. Circa 1761, he married in Hunterdon County to Sarah Graff, also a native of Amwell Township, daughter of Henry and Mary Harley Graff. The family migrated to Western Maryland around the time of the American Revolution. Martin and Sarah were the parents of 6 children: Henry, Mary, Daniel, Abraham, Mary Elizabeth and Catharine Rouzer. Martin passed away circa 1777 in Frederick County, Maryland. He was probably buried in Apple's Church Cemetery, although there is no surviving grave marker for him. Sarah Graff Rouzer is buried there.

From notes in the Daniel Rouzer Family Bible:

Henry Rouzer b. 24 Aug, 1763; m. 21 Jun, 1782 to Eva, b. 14 Sep, 1765
Mary Rouzer b. 11 Jun, 1765
Daniel Rouzer b. 04 Apr, 1767
Abraham Rouzer b. 22 Apr, 1769
Elizabeth Rouzer b. 22 Feb, 1772
Catharine Rouzer b. 11 Mar, 1775

Notes from Eddie Hogan:

"When Martin Rouzer purchased land in Frederick County, Maryland in 1769, he gave his occupation as blacksmith, living in Kingwood, Hunterdon County, New Jersey."

Just a bit more information for you. Clearly you have been thinking about him. According to a 1890s memoir, my ancestor Aaron Wood sold 50 acres in Kingwood, Hunterdon, NJ in 1763. In 1770 Martin sold it to Gideon Rouser, likely his father. Gideon sold it to Isaac Rittenhouse in 1778. So, if you are a Rouser descendent, we can safely say that your people knew my people.
