Stephen Gottlund transferred from San Francisco HS in his sophomore year. While a student at Durham High School he was a member of the Science Club, the Blue and White (newspaper) staff, and was an NROTC Finalist in his senior year.
The son of John G. and Margaret (née Durling) Gottlund, Steve was born July 4, 1949. His parents moved from Meridian to Durham in 1966, residing on the Adams Ranch which John managed for the Newhall Farm and Land Company.
Steve joined the United States Navy, and attained the rank of MM2 [Machinists Mate Second Class] residing in Old Lyme, Connecticut in 1981. He married at Groton, New London, CT on June 3, 1978, Sandra C. Hinkle. As of mid-year 2000, he moved back to live with his father on Williams Road after being diagnosed with a serious condition. Stephen died on November 9, 2001, and is interred at Glen Oaks Memorial Park, Chico.
