THE HAVENSVILLE REVIEW 27 Feb 1919
Mildred A. Abel was born on a farm near Circleville, Kan; July 14, 1878 and departed this life February 1, 1919, at her home in Holton; her age being 40 years, 6 months and 10 days. She was the daughter of Arch D. and Cynthia H. Abel. There were seven other children in the family, six of who survive. One brother and her parents preceded her in death. The remaining members of the family are Mrs. A. G. Bidwell, Mrs. Henry Elliott, Mrs. E. L. Askren, Mrs. C. H. Chamberlin, T. J. Abel and S. L. Abel. She was united in marriage to Walter Day, Nov. 12, 1902. To them one son, Kendall, was born. Mrs. Day has lived in Holton with her family since 1907. She was a member of the Methodist church for a goodly number of years, having joined at Circleville in 1901. She was faithful and consistent in her church life, being a member of the Overcoming Sunday school class and the Busy Maids and Matrons. Mrs Day also held membership in the Workman order, the Degree of Pocahontas, and the Ladies of G. A. R. serving as treasurer of the last named organization. Mrs. Day was deeply interested in the recent war, owing to the fact that a nephew, Olin Elliott, who was very dear to her, is with the A. E. F. in rance. She was first of all a lover of home and family. She had a prominent desire to have her home a Christian home. She possessed the fine traits of cheerfulness and patience. Although she was stricken in life at a time when it seems that her family and friends need her most, she left to them the assurance that she is "Safe in the arms of Jesus".
Funeral services were conducted from the family residence on north Vermont, Wednesday afternoon, by her pastor, Rev. Frank E. Ryerson. The many floral pieces bore expression of appreciation of her worthy life, and sympathy to her husband, son and other relatives. Burial was made in the Holton cemetery. -- Holton Recorder.
