He was born Nov. 17, 1922, in Chickasha, Okla., the son of Andrew Fleming Reeves and Grace Mae (Johnson) Reeves. He died July 4, 2011 in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Earl served with the 8th Air Force in England during World War II. After receiving his honorable discharge, he resumed his job with Griffith Theaters in Chickasha as a projectionist. While working at the shows he met his wife-to-be Dorothea Spence, who was working as a cashier at the shows.
They were married on July 11, 1948, a marriage that lasted 54 years. Earl was named manager of the Chief Drive-In Theaters. He also served as relief manager of the theaters in Clinton and Holdenville, Okla.
He quit the shows in 1955 to work in the advertising department of the Chickasha Daily Express (now Chickasha Express-Star). Eighteen months later he was appointed Advertising Manager, a position he held until 1981 when he and his wife purchased The Cyril News, a weekly newspaper, in conjunction with a small print shop in Cyril, Okla.
While working at the Express, he was an active member of the American Business Club and also worked several seasons in the Chickasha Little League program, serving as President in 1966 (the 10th anniversary of the Chickasha Little League).
He and his wife sold the Cyril News in 1998. During their 17 years as publishers of the paper they won several first-place plaques in advertising and photography that were awarded by the Oklahoma Press Association each year at the Oklahoma State Fair.
While in Cyril, he was a member of the Cyril Rotary Club. They continued to operate the Print Shop until 2008 when he retired at age 85.
He and his wife were members of the Epworth United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by wife Dorothea; parents Andrew F. and Grace Reeves; brother Clarence Reeves and his wife Donnie; sister Jane and husband Maurice McClaran.
