LEONARDVILLE-- Rabern LeRoy Hagenmaier, 76, died Friday, July 8, 2011 at Leonardville Nursing Home, Leonardville.

Mr. Hagenmaier was born Oct. 25, 1934, on the family farm north of Winkler, Kan., the son of LeRoy and Mae (Dudley) Hagenmaier.

On June 20, 1963, he was united in marriage to Aneta M. Classon at the Walsburg Lutheran parsonage.

After graduating from high school, Rabern and his brother, Bob Hagenmaier, farmed a couple of years in the Peach Grove area. He joined the United States Air Force in February of 1954 and served with the 40th Bombardment Wing (SAC), 44th Bomb Squadron. Rabern was a crew chief on B-47 Stratojet bombers. He was honorable discharged as a staff sergeant in February of 1958. He was a lifetime member of the 40th Bomb Wing Association. Airplanes always remained an interest to Rebern.

After his discharge from the Air Force he attended Aero Mechanics School in Kansas City, Mo. graduating in 1961. While attending school he also worked at the Ford plant on the assembly line. Rabern was also a construction worker, operator of Hagenmaier Phillips 66 Service Station in Randolph, farmer/stockman, part-time employee of the Manhattan Commission Company, motor grader operator for Jackson Township and trustee of the Jackson Township Board.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bob Hagenmaier.

Survivors include his wife, Aneta Hagenmaier of the home at Randolph; one brother, Wendell (Pete) Hagenmaier and wife Beverly of Wichita; two sisters, Barbara Byarlay and husband Phil of Randolph and Linda Lucas and husband Rick of Lawrence; one sister-in-law, Theresia Hagenmaier of Randolph; nephews and nieces and their families and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 12, at Walsburg Lutheran Church northeast of Leonardville with the Revs. Gordon and Sonja Sandquist officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Randolph-Fancy Creek Cemetery north of Randolph.

Respect calls may be made anytime Monday (today) at the Holmes-Pfeifley Funeral Home, Riley.

Memorials have been established for the Walsburg Lutheran Church and the Terry C. Johnson Center for Basic Cancer Research at Kansas State University.
