Word has been received that George Davis, 95, lontime resident and pioneer of Idaho Falls and vicinity, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Alice Thomas, Los Angeles, Calif., from causes incident to Age. He moved to California from here in Sept. 1959.
Mr. Davis was born Oct. 7, 1867, at Logan, Cache County, Utah. At the age of two years he moved with his parents to Malad Valley, Idaho where they were among the first settlers of the small community of Samaria. There he spent his boyhood life and when a young man of about 21 years of age was married to Sariah Thomas, a girlfriend of his hometown, and also of Ogden, Utah. They were married in the LDS Temple at Logan, Utah, Sept. 28, 1888. They lived together for 70 years before his wife's death in Idaho Falls Dec. 5, 1958, at the age of 88.
Soon after this marriage, they moved to the Upper Snake River Valley, and settled on one hundred and sixty acres of sagebrush land about 15 miles northeast of Idaho Falls. There he established himself as a farmer and stockman. He was in the sheep business for many years.
Upon selling out these interests he later became associated with the late Judge Huffaker in the real estate business. This partnership was later dissolved and Mr. Davis continued on in the business for many years. He was, alone with being an operator of irrigation farms, also one of the early drayland wheat farmers of this vicinity, owning and operating holding of land in the hills east of the city during the "horse and buggy days."
Before moving to California he resided at 364 J St. and was a member of the LDS Fourth War, holding the office of High Priest.
About the turn of the century he was called to serve a LDS Mission in the Southern States. After about six months he contracted malaria and was released from his assignment.
He is survived by the following sons and daughters: Mrs. L. A. (Alice) Thomas, Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. G. W. (Vera) Charlesworth, D. Walter Davis and Mrs. L. D. (Leda) Hunt, all of Idaho Falls; Mrs. J. A. (Elsie) Zitting, Wenatchee, Wash.; Mrs. Art (Ruth) Marler, Carpinteria, Calif.; George G. Davis, Blackfoot; and Seth B. Davis, Buhl. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Alta) Nixon, Blackfoot.
