US Diplomat. Served in the United States Army during the Spanish-American War. He served as United States Ambassador to Belgium from 1911 to 1912, and United States Ambassador to Japan from 1912 to 1913.
Larz was a member of the "Society of the Cincinnati", founded after the American Revolution by and for officers of the Continental Line, and eventually carried on by their descendants. The 1903 Beaux-Arts mansion on Washington's Embassy Row, which he and wife Isabel built as a showplace for entertaining as well as for their personal winter residence, was turned over to the Society for use as their headquarters after Isabel's death. Larz also was a long-time member of the "Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States" (MOLLUS), based on the Civil War service of his uncle, Major Robert Anderson of Fort Sumter fame.
