PEORIA - Edward A. Velpel , 80, of Peoria died at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2003, at his residence.

Born Aug. 22, 1922, in Peoria to Frank and Eva Royster Velpel , he married Rebekah Virginia McClure on June 26, 1949, in Peoria. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Carol (and Steven) Wrigley of Peoria and Constance ''Connie'' (and Paul Dennis) Velpel of Washburn; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

He was a World War II Army Air Forces veteran.

He graduated from Bradley University in 1949 with a bachelor's degree in business administration.

He was president of H.B. McClure Manufacturing Co. for 48 years, retiring in 1998.

He was a member of Arcadia Avenue Presbyterian Church in Peoria, where he served as an elder.

Cremation has been accorded. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at his church, where visitation will be one hour before. The Rev. Dr. Kenn Shedenhelm will officiate. Burial of ashes will be in Parkview Cemetery at a later date. Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
