"Essie Davenport, age 87, of Coleman, died Saturday, July 7, 2001 at Holiday Hill Nursing Home. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a. m. Monday, July 9, 2001 at Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

"Mrs. Davenport was born September 23, 1913 in Coleman, Texas and was the daughter of Modie and Martha Cope Hughes. She grew up in Coleman County and attended school at Loss Creek. She was married to O. A. Armstrong in 1931 and to Clarence Davenport in 1978. She worked as a clerk at Anthony's and J. C. Penney's and also worked at the Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Coleman. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.

"Survivors include her husband, Clarence Davenport of Coleman; one daughter, Maxie Armstrong Morris of Coleman; four grandchildren, Perry Armstrong of Sweetwater, Danny (and wife Lindi) Armstrong of Coleman, Marcia Armstrong of Coleman and Misty (and husband Jerry) Johnson of Coleman; eight great-grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Charles Armstrong, in 1999.

"Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Big County, 3113 Oldham Lane, Abilene, Texas 79602."
