Mamie Bedlan was born on May 1, 1906, to Charles Sr. and Kristina (Bernasek) Krupicka on a farm southeast of Milligan. She died Nov. 24, 2006, at Heritage Crossings Nursing Home in Geneva at the age of 100 years, six months and 23 days. She was the oldest of five children.

Mamie was baptized at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Milligan. She attended rural school and then Tobias High School, graduating with the class of 1924. She enjoyed attending her alumni reunions and did so until the age of 99.

On Sept. 1, 1926, Mamie married Felix Bedlan. They lived on a farm south of Friend until retirement. This union was blessed with a son and a daughter, Felix and Lorene.

In Mamie's later years, she went back to college and then taught rural school s in Saline and Jefferson Counties for 30 years. She always enjoyed baking rolls, kolaches, and cookies, which she willingly shared with her family. She also dearly loved to play the accordion. Mamie was also known to always help out where she could.

Mamie kept busy and was a member of the St. Wenceslaus Altar Society; American Legion Auxiliary and Seniors Club.

Mamie was preceded in death by her husband, Felix; one brother, one sister and a granddaughter, Jackie Hromodka.

She is survived by her son Felix A. and wife Jean of Fairbury; daughter Lorene Hromodka and husband Milo of Milligan; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and 10 great-great -grandchildren; two brothers, Alfred Krupicka and wife Irene of Exeter, and Louis Krupicka and wife Elsie of McCool; and by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services for Mamie were conducted from the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Milligan on Nov. 28, with Father David Bourek officiating.

Barbara Bedlan was the organist and accompanied Robert Kassik who snag "In the Garden," and "How Great Thou Art," and Brianna Bedlan, who sang "Going Home."

Pallbearers for the service were grandsons and great-grandsons, Larry, Dan, Bruce, David, Barry and Neal Bedlan. Honorary pallbearers were Jane (Hromodka) Antholz, Jessica Antholz, Jenna Antholz, Sarah (Bedlan) Heislen, Beth (Bedlan) Beaty and Brianna Bedlan.

Interment was in the Bohemian National Cemetery south of Milligan.
