Funeral services for Mrs. Ben Baker, 79, a resident of Nodaway many years, were held Wednesday, October 8, at 2 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Nodaway. The Rev. Alvin Sigafus, pastor of the church was in charge. Interment was in the Nodaway Cemetery. The Rolland Funeral Home of Corning was in charge of arrangements.
Mary Francis Baker, daughter of John and Sarilda Margerum, was born October 27, 1878 in Montgomery County, Iowa and died October 6, 1958 at the Rosary Hospital, Corning, Iowa.
She had two brothers and four sisters, who preceded her in death. In 1903, she married Ben Baker; they had no children of their own, but took three other children into their home and raised them.
For 220 years, Mary Baker served as telephone operator. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church. She had been secretary of the Cemetery Association and had also belonged to the Womens Relief Corps.
