MAN DIED WHILE DRIVING AUTO IN CROWDED STREET
Cerebel Hemorrhage Causes Death of Harry B. Parfitt, Former Kentuckian
Collapsing at the wheel of his automobile as he was driving across the corner of Bay and Broad streets yesterday morning shortly after 11 o'clock, Harry B. Parfitt, 34, formerly of Louisville, Ky, and more recently living at 229 Laura Street, died before he could be removed from behind the wheel of his moving automobile. His car, without a conscious guiding hand, coasted across the intersection while the traffic blocked officer on duty had traffic blocked from the Riverside viaduct. from where the car had come, and was only stopped when J. Gilmore, 221 Gilmore Street, jumped on the running board, stopped the engine and appliced the brakes.
Parfitt was beleived to be dead by J. M. Taylor, call officer, when he arrived on the scene, but the officer rushed him to St. Lukes Hospital where resuscitation was tried, but in vain. The cerebral hemorrhage that resulted in his death is beleived to have been caused by a fall sustained when Parfitt was but 3
years old.
The deceased has been in Jacksonville two months, intending only to make a short visit to his cousin, D. W. (Jack) Parfitt, deputy clerk in the office of Frank Brown, clerk of the circuit court. Liking Jacksonville, the Kentuckian decided to stay in the city and secured a position as wholesale salesman for the Tater-Flakes Company, 125 Laura Street.
He is survied by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Parfitt of Louisville, who have been notifed of his death. The body was removed to the funeral home of Burns and Clymore, where it is being held pending arrangements for its disposition upon advice from Louisville.
Parfitt's death was the second of its kind to occur within a few minutes of each other, William T. Simmons, 70, dying as he sat in his automobile in front of 1546 Riverside Avenue.
