Mary Elizabeth Hays Beach Hefner was born the daughter of George L. & Cassandra Horine Hays in Harrodsburg, KY. As a young girl, she moved with her parents to McLean County, IL, settling near Selma.
She married William M. Beach on June 6, 1856 and had three children with him: Frank L. Beach, Geo. W. Beach & Mrs. Estella (Kate) Beach Semple. William Beach died around 1868.
Mary then became the 2nd wife of Nimrod Dove Hefner on June 10, 1869 in McLean County, IL. Together, they had one child, Hattie Bell Hefner Anson. Nimrod died in 1893.
