US Navy Vice Admiral. During World War II Yeager was the Executive Officer of the Battleship USS Nevada, which had been badly damaged in the attack on Pearl Harbor. On July 12, 1958 Yeager became the Commander of Amphibious Force, United States Pacific Fleet. He was promoted to Vice Admiral on July 23, 1960. His last command was as Commandant of the Ninth Naval District at the Great Lakes Training Facility. He remained in that command until he and his wife died in a fire at his residence at the Great Lakes Training Base.
