ATHENS - Aileen Louise Butler, 84, died Wednesday, September 16, 1998, in a Princeton hospital. Born January 16, 1914, at Athens, she was the daughter of the late John Miles Bailey (1884-1970) and Sallie Louise Shumate-Bailey (1878-1962). Mrs. Butler was a graduate of Athens High School, received her A.B. degree from Concord College in Athens and had worked toward a Masters Degree from Marshall University, Huntington. She had taught school in the Mercer County School System for more than 25 years, having taught for more than 19 years at Montcalm High School. She was a lifetime member of the National Teacher Education Association and the West Virginia Education Association. Mrs. Butler was an active member of the Mercer County Farm Bureau. For many years, she was a very dedicated and devoted member of the Mercer 4-H Club and the Athens 4-H organizations. She was a lifetime member of the West Virginia/Mercer County 4-H, she was an 4-H Allstar. On many occasions, held workshops, lectured and taught classes to all ages of 4-H groups. She was a member of the Concord United Methodist Church, Athens. Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Clark R. Butler (1910-2005); a son, Paul Clark Butler and his wife, Patty Butler, of Mt. Clare; two daughters, Mary L. Butler-Hopkins and her husband, C.W. Hopkins Jr., of Pipestem, and Carol B. Butler-Bailey and her husband, Everette Bailey of Princeton; six grandchildren, Sean Paul Butler and Ryan Edward Butler, Bobby Hopkins and Bill Hopkins, and Jerrery Wayne Bailey and Heather Bailey; and two great-grandchildren, Katie Hopkins and Elijah Hopkins. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the Burns-Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road, Princeton, with the Rev. Kevin Gooding officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens on the Courthouse Road, Princeton.
